BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell has placed eight, including six
First Team members, on the 2014 Academic All-Pioneer Football League teams,
announced today.
Junior running back Dalton Dillon, redshirt senior offensive
lineman Will Sawyer, redshirt junior tight end Hunter Somerville, fifth-year
senior quarterback Dakota Wolf, redshirt senior defensive lineman Lucas Smith
and senior punter Adam Lutz all made the league’s first team.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Ben Bolling and linebacker
Andrew Yost, another redshirt junior, were also second team choices.
Campbell tied with Dayton for the most first team picks with
six, while earning the second most overall with eight selections behind Butler,
which collected three first team and six on the league’s second team for a
total of nine.
Four of Campbell’s eight Academic All-PFL picks were also
named to the league’s first or second all-conference teams, and another, Dakota
Wolf, was an All-PFL honorable mention. Dalton Dillon, Will Sawyer and Adam
Lutz were also First Team All-PFL, while Andrew Yost earned Second Team All-PFL
honors.
Somerville and Lutz were among 11 PFL student-athletes to
repeat as first team members. The pair was among six Camels receiving Academic
All-PFL recognition for at least the second time. Lutz (First Team 2013, Second
Team 2012) and Smith (Second 2013, 2012) made the league’s all-academic teams
for the third time in their careers.
Sawyer (Second 2012), Somerville (First 2013), Wolf (Second
2012) and Bolling (First 2013) all earned a spot on the teams for the second
time.
CU’s six first team members is a program best, while the
Camels’ eight total Academic All-PFL picks match the program’s all-time high
from 2012. Campbell has posted at least one First Team Academic All-PFL team
selection in each of its seven seasons, and at least five total team picks in
each of the last five years.
The Academic All-PFL teams are a complement to the Capital
One Academic All-America® program presented by the College Sports Information
Directors of America. Eleven PFL student-athletes were named to their
respective Capital One Academic All-District Teams® this fall. The 2014 Capital
One Academic All-America Teams® will be announced Thursday.
PFL athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL
squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes.
To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a
varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of
3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and reached their second season both athletically and
academically at his current institution.
