ECU'sMontese Overton Named AAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Senior OLB Recorded Six Tackles For Loss Including An AAC
Record Four Sacks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Carolina senior Montese Overton has
been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week
according to an announcement by the league office Monday.

The Greenville, N.C. native set an AAC record and tied a
school record with four sacks in the Pirates’ 49-23 win at SMU. Overton, who
tallied six tackles (four solo) which included five tackles for loss, played a
pivotal role on the Pirates defense that allowed just 40 yards rushing
(season-low for an opponent) and held the Mustangs scoreless for the last 40:08
of the contest.

Overton is the first East Carolina player with four sacks in
a game since Rod Coleman had four against Wake Forest in 1997, a span of 225
games.

On the season, he has recorded 32 stops (19 solo) to rank
third on the squad, while leading the Pirates’ defense in TFLs (5.5/-37 yards)
and sacks (4.0/-35 yards), along with ranking second in pass breakups (3).

Fellow upperclassman James Summers earned his
second-straight American Conference Honor Roll selection after completing nine
of 10 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. The junior also rushed for 85
yards on nine carries with a pair of scores leading the Pirates to their second
consecutive come from behind win.

East Carolina will close out its 2015 non-conference
schedule when it faces BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff
is set for 7:30 p.m. (EDT) and will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
