The Charlotte 49ers (0-1; 0-0) travel to #19 Kansas State (1-0) for the second straight road game of the young season. Charlotte head coach Brad Lambert, a 1987 Kansas State grad, was an all-Big Eight DB for the Wildcats in 1984 and a three-time Academic all-Big Eight choice. Defensive Coordinator Matt Wallerstedt is a 1988 Kansas State grad who earned honorable mention all-America honors in 1987.

The 49ers lost at Eastern Michigan, 24-7, in the season-opener. The 49ers outrushed the Eagles, 166-126, but were beaten through the air, 267-114 and fell victim to three turnovers and 11 penalties (112 yds). The Eagles first score came on a Pick Six.

Charlotte’s defense surrendered just 17 points, including seven in the second half as they forced EMU to punt on six of eight possessions with four straight three-and-outs and stopped the Eagles on fourth down in Charlotte territory.

Offensively, the 49ers managed one score despite a career-high 101-yd. rushing performance from QB Hasaan Klugh. Klugh had a 51-yard run that set up a 21-yard first quarter TD pass to R-Sr. Trent Bostick, a three-year starter who was making his return after sitting out last season. Trailing 14-7 in the second quarter, the 49ers had a scoreless, nine-play, drive that amassed 80 yards of total offense but was derailed by three penalties for 35 yards.

K-State used three big plays (55-yd TD pass; 62-yd. punt return; 70-yd. TD pass) in the final six minutes of the second quarter to pull away from Central Arkansas, 55-19.
